IM BACK!
whooolooloooooo.
i gotta admit.
NEMO WAS DAMN FUN. woowoo.
anthropology is quite nice thing to study. like you study about people, their culture, the way they live. ZOMG. interesting lah. i have a lot of thoughts.
WARNING! ITS DAMN LONG. GIVE UP READING HALFWAY PLEASE.DAY 1.harbourfront. my mummy fetch me there. she's so kind. but of course! she takes the trait from ME! :D then no one from my group was there yet except for hannah. so i sat with meiyi and nette there. called alkhaff he said he was coming! k so he came like 15 minutes later carrying a mountainous ridge-like bag. hmmmmm. then so we took attendance and all that stuff. by then it was like 8.50am when everyhting was settled with the passports everything. i was trying to get through 9*****072! but it was switched off. finally! it got through at the last minute. oh boy was i glad. so then our boat departed at 9.30 to sekupang. zomg. the trip was 45 minutes there then we had to take bus to another jetty. the bus ride was omg boring. to kill boredom, me and saleena (soon hisham and alkhaff joined) started playing hangman.
HANGMAN DIED ALL THE TIME. then we finally got to the jetty! and took a 1.9hr boat ride there. IT WAS EVEN WORSE! i cant stand the quietness so i started talking all the cock there was. i met Fairuz from bpgh! :D she was rather quiet. but nvm. i managed to entertain myself. with siti, jackie, hannah, cikgu, wai cheung and wee hoe surrounding me. haha. when we finally reached there it was excellent! :D
learning points: I NEED TO ENTERTAIN MYSELF ALL THE TIME BY TALKING ALL THE NONSENSE AND EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. :D AND THAT BOAT RIDES ROCK. THOUGH IT WAS LONG AND ARDOUS!
so when we arrived we were assigned to our rooms. my roommates were
rose, xiling, siti, fairuz and hannah! :D we are such
good roommates who ensures cleanliness and comfortability. so i slept at the bottom bunk. the toitlet was like red light district. pink lights.
-SHOCK- and we got
electrocuted whenever we touched the shower head and the mixer. there was even aircon! so we didnt do much. more of like slacking around and stuff. we had a discussion of what we were supposed to do for our project and stuff. and we even had this personality test. cool huh. at night we had astronomy. SHIT. the entire sky was damn beautiful. it was like a kahang view minus the nyamuks. the land breeze was coling and refreshing.
I LOVE THE KELONG. it was a romantic atmosphere if i could say and then you can imagine all this
ballerina dancing in the sky held by this hot, sexy and manly male dancer. OOOOOHH hot. so i learnt about orion, pegasus, the maladies and seven sisters and saw this flickering blotch of stars throught the microscope! holy. IM SERIOUS. astronomy, the studying of stars especially, is fun! so hwat we learnt was that we need teamwork and cooperation for everything to go well. SLEEP!
DAY 2.
we woke up with a
FLOOD IN OUR ROOM. from my notebook: [so first night has passed. omg. i tell you. it was as comfortable as it could get. :D i was even in LALALAND! :D whee. at least there was aircon. hmm. where's issara. he's flying off today. : ok. we woke up too early man. it's only like 7.45am sg time. breakfast is at 8! so we are now sitting around.] it started raining polar bears and cows. our trip to petong had to be delayed. sat around longer. doing practically nothing! we had nasi lemak for breakfast man. sweet. and lunch there. so we travelled there for the first time. it was 30 min ride. we went to the schl there. it was kinda small. and there was no ventilation. im serious. how the hell do they breath in such a stuffy room man.so we took pictures and stuff. and saw this little kitten! then we set off to our first village with clothes and stuff with the ocip group. we had to climb
"mountains and hills" to get to this other village. so we split up into groups.
hse 1: this old man and his wife. they were kind. we had quite a good conversation for a first. the man was 61 and his wife (aloi) was 58. they were healthy for god's sake. had 8 children without having to visit the doctor for any pregnancy follow ups. how cool is that man. they are mostly fishermen who sells fish to some towkay in batam and from then on they dont know what happens.
they are rather lowly educated. but still we could see that they lead a happy life man. we offered them clothes. and so they took a whole bunch i feel happy whenever we give the clothes to them and they gladly choose what they want. they even have chickens!
hse2: ohmygod. they werent very friendly but they had this little baby boy who's like cutezxzxz. the man(including wai cheung and wee hoe) sniggered at me and siti when we didnt know what spider in malay is. wtfbbq65278orlf!
it's not KUMBANG but LABAH-LABAH. you nyamuk. why didnt it occur to me man. the man said education there is like $4000?! LIKE ZOMG. why so expensive man. even sg aint that expensive! and the best part. they can recognise their own chickens without having to coop them up or tag them. HEY! i want that kind of ability too. and their aspirations and dreams aint that big either. just to lead a long life and educate their children. : k maybe they dont have much and those simple stuff is already enough. when compared to us, towners, we have so much that we want.
suddenly i feel spoilt. :\then we headed back. second day it was sushimi making! HAHA. i can still rmb siti's face when she ate the sushimi which she soaked in wasabi+soy sauce. it's kinda cool man. had reflections. yes and we sat at the kelong to see stars again. :D sleeeeeeep!
DAY 3
we woke up with
A FLOOD IN OUR ROOM.
from my notebook: [anthro. first hse was . nitce. interesting boy they talk a lot. all the females where there. k not all but 4. so the observation and conclusion was that older FEMALES are nicer and friendlier.] in the first house we saw cat giving birth.it wasnt exactly giving birth but the mini tiny kittem was 2 hours old. it was like the width of my wrist! shit. they were really nice. second hse was the shopkeepers. they offered usdrinks but we didnt take any. then one of the men in the house had a handphone. and tv all that. they were really quite rich la for for a villager. they lived in bricked/cemented wall. one of the men there had a passport. and works in malaysia. how cool is that. he happens to be the only one. and the husband had a
TATTOOO. jaw drops. so we left and had lunch! jessica they all played with the kids while i just sat there and roteating lunch which was rice and...ya RICE. drank coconut drink. hisham aint no coconut boy.
-FAINTS.
hse 3: we passed by this "ni chi na li" man. he spoke mandarin! we were quite shock and was wondering whether we heard what we heard. apparently the woman was mixed chinese malay. but her chinese father died when she was 4. interestingly she had sooooo many pails and buckets and that thing. like. crazy please. they are exceptionally fairer than the rest. their village is like kinda fragmented.
on the way there sea water sprayed on me and i was sticky and felt damn disgusting. : on the overall i think the trip there was better tahn the first day cos maybe we had more experience. :D in the afternoon, i called mummy. she said they were at grandfather's place. k i started to feel something amiss. but put it off. then at night we had night trek. my shoe had no friction and the sole coming off. okay it already did and the front was hole-y. water kept on seeping into my shoe and my whole socks was like wet and soggy. i almost died. and halfway i wanted to like throw up.
but the pikin helped! and we sat at the sand bar, star gazing. naturally, i thought of my family and yes. i rmb the flood lights and hisham was SPIDERMAN. --psst! im eating mars. k YOW. and thank you all who helped me whenever i slip and fall. HAHA.
must be the shoes!DAY 4
last day at petong.
time seemed to fly at 93275492520346km/h.hse 1: they were all smokers. the smoke was........choking. and we took photos with the kids! alkhaff looked like either their brother/father. HAHA.
alkhaff, i think you can fit into the village well enough. surprisingly, the woman we interviewed was 26 yrs old and her mother was 45! FAINTED! that mean, her mum was 19 when she was born! fun! they offered us SEAFOOD! i felt bad for takingit but they gave it so we took. they told us about this
virgin thing. taht virgins get possessed. k so all of us are gonna get possessed. it's kinda scary that the possessed will have fitsssss and eyes turn blue!? K. ENOUGH. and the hantu started.hse 2: a midwife. i dont think she could talk cos she didnt even UTTER a word! HOLY. that's sad. but she doesnt have any children of her own! maybe cos she delivered too many babies already till she's become...er......YES.
her husband was 97 yrs old! holy. what kind of long life they lead. dont they get sick of living?!
but then again, life is god's gift!hse 3: this young couple. they had tv and surfed sg channels!they kept glass bottles. good looking couple. and yes. we didnt stay too long cos i was damn sleeeepy! i couldnt stop yawning.
then we had lunch! at the penghulu's house. they ate the crayfish and crab. then we interviewd him. yes. he was like elected by the residents. it's like they came to a consensus. and we found out about the sects of islam. er.... i dont really know what but i think it's load of rubbish.
we saw them burning PLASTIC! all the fumes. they're polluting the environment! you should see how they litter! it's like EVERYWHERE! so we headed back to pulau segayang!
that night we were supposed to do some bubu trap thing. but all night activities was cancelled. so we had some meeting and decided on what to write for a reprt. talking about that, we need to meet up guys! so yes. then at night, cikgu told me some bad news. rather i told myself by confirming what i felt all day long that my grandad passed away. so of course i was damn sad not because that he was gone. but cos i couldnt be there to offer yassin to him when he was going to die and be there to see him last. the last time i met him was like a week before i left? yes. so it was quite devatating cos my mum told me that only my brother out of the many grandchildren he has who offered yassin recitation. really a sad case. and i think only my family, and one aunt and uncle could recite the quran. it's sssssaaaaaaaaad. i super wanted to be alone and go home quickkkkkk! so i didnt really enjoy my last dayyy.
DAY 5
we had many activities. first was some sharing session before lunch. after lunch they all left for petong while ocip and anthro stayed at pulau segayang. muslims offered prayers for my dad including wee hoe, charmain, wai cheung and jacqueline who came. THANKS ALL. then we had the activities! first we went to the jetty thing. i thought them how to fish! and they had this confidence walk! but i didnt try cos i didnt wanna get wet. oh the day before we did kayaking! HAHA. i really didnt want to jump but those idiots took off my specs and pulled me in. BLAAAAAH. nvm.
black nurul returned. then yes we didnt do boom netting! we just snorkeled. i buried myself in sand and threw all that stonesa dn made it skip. then we played captain's ball and volleyball. and bathed! fresh then we did the bubu trap thing and kelong fishing. it was a happy night. :D
that's it! we spent the last day shopping for food and seafood. ahha i rmb we ate the gong gong cockles. nice. nobody at my table eats them except for me and siti. and siti lent me money! i still owe her. : then yes. siti bought so many clothes fr her little cousins while i bought none!
the boat ride to mainland, me and siti were singing nonstop. ahahha. survived using wee hoe's mp3 while hisham and alkhaff were too busy with the wind and music. ahahha. charmain had some stomach problems. but she was alright soon after vicks rub provided by wee hoe. :D then finally when we were on boat the boat ride to singapore,
me, siti, xiling, rose, joseph and cikgu sazali went to the top part to enjoy the wind and all. we also collected money to donate to the people at petong! we were counting money as well. hahaha. yes. that's about it. we had dinner. sadly, siti couldnt join us but i left soon after my dad came to fetch me.
so now im home and i think i just typed close to 10000 words and spent approximately 3.5 hours typing this. see you again.
pardon for the long entry.
but nemo was exceptionally fun and interesting.
